A contemporary of the unprecedented expansion of image reproduction techniques, Alain Jacquet (1939, Neuilly-sur-Seine - 2008, New York) never stopped exploring the way in which our gaze is infiltrated by representations. From his first abstract canvases to the mechanically produced screen-printed or computer-generated paintings, a prodigious diversity of forms and media enabled him to experiment with techniques that he would champion throughout his career.

A representative of French Pop Art, Jacquet experimented with the subversion of images, in particular that of icons of Art History, from Monet's "Déjeuner sur l'herbe" to Ingres' "La Source". He renders apparent the way mechanical reproduction of unique images for mass consumption fragments the original image in a kaleidoscope of colours and lines, which the silkscreen technique fits perfectly.
