Eva Jospin French, b. 1975

Eva Jospin is a French artist born in 1975 in Paris. A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, she has been developing a body of work since the early 2000s that consists primarily of drawings, sculptures, and installations.

Using her medium of choice—cardboard—which she works with the precision of a goldsmith, she sculpts imaginary landscapes and architectural forms. This humble material is transformed by her technical mastery; she succeeds in exploiting all of its properties. Its very composition, with its multiple layers, allows her to construct, through a process of cutting and assembling, structures of great density.

Forests, palaces, gardens, architecture, and nature come together to form a profoundly unique universe. Starting with a foundational motif—the forest—she gradually develops more constructed spaces, culminating in the cave, which has become one of her recurring themes, notably explored in the exhibition “Grottesco” at the Grand Palais. In her caves, vegetation, architecture, and the fantastical intertwine in a profusion of detail, giving rise to worlds that are both lush and mysterious.
