One might think that advertising photography is antithetical to any artistic approach. This is to forget that Man Ray and Lee Miller also contributed to the pages of Vogue. For Pierre Jahan, his advertising studies provided him with a vast corpus of images with which he could experiment, in a combinatory manner, throughout his career. "As an old and unrepentant surrealist, I was able to indulge in fantasies at that time, which brought me quite a few clients.
