This photograph is a surreal self-portrait of the photographer: dressed in a suit, he uses a photomontage to cover his face with the skull of a skeleton, which then aligns perfectly with his own head. Jahan evokes the traditional theme of vanitas, where the representation of life simultaneously recalls the presence of death. Jahan employs montage and photographic experimentation to produce this symbolic image.
