The poem "Salomé" by Apollinaire, from the Alcools volume, probably inspired Picasso's work, or vice versa. The links between Picasso and Apollinaire represented one of the most fruitful artistic friendships of the 20th century. Apollinaire and Picasso also share the theme of acrobats, taken up here.
