Christian Sery French, b. 1959
Christian Sery, born in 1959 in Linz, Austria, is an artist based in Germany. After initially training as a structural engineer, he studied painting at the University of Art and Design in Linz. In 1984, he moved to Düsseldorf and began working as an independent artist.
His practice combines painting, drawing, and sculpture, with a particular interest in space and architecture. Since 2003, he has taught at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (Hochschule für Bildende Künste), where he also served as rector from 2005 to 2012.
He lives and works in Germany.

Christian Sery is an Austrian artist born in Linz in 1959. His career began in the field of construction; in 1978, he completed his training as an engineer at the Höhere Technische Bundeslehranstalt in Krems. That same year, he began studying painting at the University of Art and Design in Linz, continuing his studies there until 1984.
This dual background—combining technical training with the visual arts—has shaped his artistic journey. In 1984, Sery moved to Düsseldorf, where he worked as an independent artist. His practice encompasses painting, drawing, and sculpture, with a particular focus on the relationship between the artwork, architecture, and space.
Throughout his career, he has created interventions and works designed in direct dialogue with their specific settings, thereby developing a practice that progressively transcends the traditional boundaries of the picture plane.
Since 2003, Christian Sery has taught interdisciplinary and experimental painting in Dresden. He also served as the institution's rector from 2005 to 2012. He lives and works in Germany.
