Over the years, Eva Jospin’s sculpted landscapes and imaginary architectures have come together to form a profoundly unique body of work. Eva Jospin’s caves draw inspiration from the legend of a young Roman who stumbled upon a cavern where he discovered forgotten frescoes from the Domus Aurea. From this buried palace, resembling a cave, emerges the “grotesque” that Eva Jospin takes as her thread: a style where the vegetal, the architectural, and the fantastical intertwine. It is this thread that Eva Jospin clings to, weaving her own world. For nearly a decade now, the theme of the cave has taken root in her work, joining the forest, inhabiting it, transforming it. In her drawings, sculptures, and installations, we find this idea of a revealed cavity, of hidden depth, of proliferating forms and motifs.

Eva Jospin’s technical mastery is undeniable: cardboard installations and sculptures that she crafts with the precision of a goldsmith. She exploits all the properties of cardboard, both economic and material. The use of this inexpensive and widely available material was initially an opportunity for the artist to address the economic constraints inherent in the production of any artwork. In a lengthy process of assembly, she layers and glues together various pre-cut pieces of cardboard to construct, through a play of volumes, sections of extremely dense forests. She takes advantage of the very composition of cardboard, which consists of multiple layers and allows for endless cutting possibilities.
