Pablo Picasso Spanish, 1881-1973
While living in Antibes, at the Château Grimaldi, Pablo Picasso encountered a small owl, which from then on kept him company in his studio. Fascinated by this nocturnal animal, which also echoed the ancient themes he was working on at the time, he never stopped depicting it, varying both the medium and the form.
Allegories of wisdom or birds of ill omen, owls take on a complex meaning in Picasso's work.
